Reference Manager 12 for Windows

Powerful bibliographic management software expands file management,
introduces Cite While You Write™ for Word 2007 for Windows® and more

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Philadelphia, PA, London, UK, September 2, 2008
— The Scientific business of Thomson Reuters today announced the release of a major upgrade to Reference Manager® for Windows — the bibliographic software used by researchers worldwide. Known as the only citation management software with a true multi-user network version, Reference Manager also provides a tool for publishing Reference Manager databases on the Web or to an intranet. Reference Manager 12 delivers expanded file management, Cite While You Write integration with Microsoft Word 2007 and enhancements to Web Publisher that simplify collaboration.

“In an ever-evolving global market, the ability to effortlessly share research with colleagues is critical,” said Keith MacGregor, EVP, Academic and Government Markets at Thomson Reuters. “Reference Manager 12 provides researchers with the flexibility to collaborate using a network, the Web or an Intranet, enabling access to references and related files anytime, anywhere.”

Link and organize files easily
Reference Manager users can now organize linked files—PDFs, graphics, and more—with their database to create a single file repository. By simply dragging and dropping a file onto a reference, Reference Manager stores a copy of the file in the repository and creates a link automatically. Existing links in a Reference Manager database can be converted to the new file management system in one step.

Cite While You Write with Microsoft Word 2007 for Windows
Reference Manager introduces a Cite While You Write tab on the Word 2007 ribbon, providing users with immediate access to frequently used commands. The new Reference Manager tab makes it easier for users to locate citations and create bibliographies instantly while writing in Microsoft Word 2007.

Collaborate with colleagues using Web Publisher
The Reference Manager Web Publisher allows users to post up to 15 Reference Manager databases to the Web or to an intranet in seconds using a simple Web publishing tool. Now Web Publisher can be run as a Windows service, ensuring that databases are always available for sharing references with colleagues while Windows is running. It is now easier to configure the Web publisher to run using Network Address Translation. And Reference Manager databases can be accessed by third party applications and enterprise portals using updated SOAP and WSDL standards.

Other new, time-saving features include:

  • Use new reference types—Edited Book, Online Source and Grant—as well as new fields in many reference types, including Conference Title, Conference Location and the NIH required PMCID.
  • Spell-check an entire database as well as individual records.
  • Move easily between records with Next and Previous buttons.
  • Identify duplicates with more options—Reference Manager can mark them automatically for instant identification.

With Reference Manager, authors can save time by exporting references directly from online resources such as ISI Web of KnowledgeSM. Manuscripts formatted by Reference Manager can be submitted easily for publications using Manuscript Central™, an online manuscript and peer review system for scholarly publishers from ScholarOne™.
